Nor am I
If you were, you’d be in the other room,
Sleeping, waiting, hoping
For the old me to return.
Or maybe I’d be there
Wishing, wanting, welcoming
The old you.

Only we don’t have each other, either.
But would it have worked anyhow?
Maybe, and only that.
And I can’t live my new life on maybes.
But my old life was full
