When I saw some workmen creating an ice rink in the Bois D'arc Park tennis courts at around 87th and Lackman in Lenexa (behind the hardware store), I wondered a bit about outdoor winter ice skating in the area. I could not find anything about this new, small rink using searches, the I Like Lenexa app, or my neighborhood Facebook group. Then again, I did not see much about the potential skating pond across Lackman in the Sar Ko Par Trails Park. Being new, I am not sure if the pond tends to safely freeze over or if people skate on it when it does.
Some people have told me that there's skating in downtown KC. That's fine, but if we can walk to skating, then it might be time to invest in actual skates for the kids. But after a full week of freezing temperatures in our first year in the area, I have seen little official sign of what is designated a skating venue in Lenexa, even though I had read that Rose's Pond used to be the skating pond in the area when the Rose family was still living on the land. Maybe someone will clarify so I can update this post. For now, we will wait and see, since I don't want to rush out to buy ice skates that we cannot use.
